Red Cross crews are on active service with Defender in North Wales, helping support people in difficult-to-reach communities such as the Snowdonia mountains, Lleyn Peninsula and Isle of Anglesey.
Their converted Defender 130 was donated to the British Red Cross by JLR to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Working with the British Red Cross, of which the Queen was Patron for 70 years, the Defender 130 is adapted in line with JLR’s modern luxury principles to include advanced communications features.
Its enhanced 4G-connected antenna provides a reliable, strong signal everywhere – essential along the Welsh coastline with its mountainous terrain and remote locations.
There’s a built-in phone, VHF communications radio and upgraded telematics with GPS tracking. A solar power system on the roof charges an auxiliary battery to run accessories when the engine is off.
A fitted drawer system allows teams to transport blankets, food and first aid supplies. The crew can even make tea, thanks to a built-in boiler.
